In Equipoise, I Wayan Upadana invites us into a space where stability and uncertainty coexist. Familiar yet elusive forms borrow the language of objects, bodies, and materials to reflect on the ways we navigate a world in constant transformation.
Rather than presenting definitive answers, the works open moments for quiet reflection—considering the relationship between weight and resilience, control and surrender. Within each composition, balance is understood not as an endpoint, but as an ongoing practice; a continuous act of adapting without losing one’s capacity to evolve.
Equipoise offers a contemplative landscape where equilibrium emerges not from certainty, but from our willingness to remain present amid perpetual change.

Wayan Upadana
I Wayan Upadana (b. Gianyar, Bali, 1983) is a Balinese visual artist who lives and works in Bali. Graduating from the Sculpture Department of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta in 2008, his practice spans sculpture, painting, and installation, using material exploration as a way of thinking through contemporary realities. His works reflect on shifting social values, identity, and the evolving cultural landscape of Bali as it negotiates modernity. Upadana has exhibited extensively across Indonesia and Australia, including an artist residency at Fremantle Arts Centre, Western Australia.
